PIONEERS PREPARE TO HOST INITIAL OUTDOOR EVENT THIS WEEKEND

One week after racking up an impressive seven first place finishes at the Blue and White Invite down in Pennsylvania, the Pioneers will host their first action of the outdoor season, hoping to capture even more gold and records. A small contingent of throwers will also travel to Cortland on Friday, before joining the rest of the team for Saturday's home action at Casamento Field.

CORTLAND, NY - On Friday, April 3rd, a few select participants will travel to Cortland State University to compete in the Cortland Red Dragon Open at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The events will start at 2 pm. 

UTICA, NY - The Utica University Men's and Women's Track and Field Team will host their first outdoor meet this weekend, with the Utica Pioneer Spring Invitational being held at Laura M. Casamento Field on Friday, April 3rd, and Saturday, April 4th. Friday will only have the Javelin event, while the rest of the events will happen on Saturday.

Last Time Out - Last weekend, the Pioneers had some long-distance runners participate on Friday at Widener University, while the other participants competed Saturday at the Lebanon Valley College Blue and White Open. The weekend would result in seven first-place finishes for the Pioneers. Aaron Johnson (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley), Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda-Fultonville), Kaiden McCaskill (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), Patrick Wands (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Shiann Williams (Bronx, NY/Hydel), Women's 4x400m (McClendon, Simmons, Messler, Manna).

Friday
Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda-Fultonville), competed in the 5000m. He finished in 6th place for the event with a time of 14:40.87. This made Melita the first Pioneer Spring athlete to qualify for the AARTFC

 Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), would continue her outstanding season with an all-time program record of 17:47.51 in the 5000m, finishing in 9th place.

Saturday
Aaron Johnson (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley), competed in the Pole Vault. He finished with a first-place finish of 4.43m. 

Genna McCallum (Mora, MN/Indian River), would also compete in the Pole Vault. She would tie the all-time program record with 3.20m and a 4th-place finish.
