UTICA, NY - The Empire 8 has announced its players of the week, with Utica women's lacrosse standout
Maria Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) being named among the recipients. The junior turned in valuable contributions in all three contests for the Pioneers last week, including scoring her 100th career goal and helping Utica clinch an E8 Tournament berth. For her performances, Stuhlman has been named the conference's Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, sharing the honors with St. John Fisher's Ellie Leisen in this cycle of awards. With postseason seeding implications on the line, Utica women's lacrosse will look to carry momentum into two home matchups against E8 opponents over the coming week.
Stuhlman and the Pioneers played an active three-game week, hosting the University of Rochester in an out-of-conference matchup before taking on Russell Sage and Alfred on the road. In a defeat by Rochester, Stuhlman chipped in one goal and one assist. She and the team responded with an 18-6 win over the Gators, in which Stuhlman and another teammate each finished with six goals and one assist. Additionally, Stuhlman scored her 100th career goal on her third goal of the game, becoming the 13th Pioneer in program history to reach triple digits. Against the Saxons, Stuhlman matched her total of seven points in this game with four goals and three assists, while also leading the game with four caused turnovers. She led Utica in draw controls in all three contests.
Utica women's lacrosse will close out the remainder of the regular season with home matchups against Hartwick and SUNY Geneseo. Against the Hawks on Wednesday, April 22nd, the opening draw is set for 4:00 pm. On Saturday against Geneseo, the matchup is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
