The spring was packed to the brim with amazing memories, featuring some great storylines, including numerous high-profile matchups, champions, and new school records. SPRING 2026 CHRONOLOGICAL RECAP
 
JANUARY 6TH | VANESSA HALL BECOMES FASTEST PLAYER IN PROGRAM HISTORY TO REACH 1000 POINTS
 
Vanessa Hall cemented her status as an all-time great Pioneer to start 2026, becoming the 15th player in program history to reach 1,000 points. Hall reached the historic 1,000-point milestone in a matchup vs Russell Sage, where she scored a team-high 22 points. In her junior year, Hall started all 25 games, scoring 454 points (12th all-time single-season) while averaging 18.2 points per game (8th all-time single-season). Hall capped off an historic season by being selected to the 2026 Empire 8 All-Conference First Team in addition to being named a finalist for the 2026 Jostens Trophy, which honors the NCAA Division III.
 

JANUARY 10TH & 11TH | WOMEN'S HOCKEY HEADS NORTH TO THE HERB BROOKS ARENA
 
The Utica women's hockey program traveled up north in early 2026 to take on SUNY Canton inside one of the most historic hockey venues in the entire world. The Pioneers battled the Kangaroos in a two-game set within the Herb Brooks Arena, the site of the 1980 Miracle on Ice. The team got to experience the historic venue, complete with top-of-the-line facilities and operations, while also enjoying an awesome atmosphere created by the large number of families and friends who made the trip up to Lake Placid to cheer them on. The Pioneers battled hard in both matchups, with Canton taking the two-game aggregate by a tight 5-4 margin. The youthful Pioneers gained valuable experience and had the opportunity to improve and grow the program's culture in one of the great hockey hotspots in the United States.
 
 
JANUARY 13TH | SEAN COFFEY SETS ALL-TIME WINS RECORD WITH VICTORY OVER HARTWICK
 
With a win vs Hartwick, Utica men's basketball head coach Sean Coffey became the program's all-time win leader. The win was secured in the midst of an eventual four-game conference win streak for the team, as they pushed past the Hawks by a 70-61 final. The victory was a balanced effort as five different Pioneers reached double-figure scoring, with Dayion Thompson and Liam Teague leading the way, scoring 13 and 12, respectively. The Pioneers used a turnover margin of -6 to get off more shots than the opposition, eventually sealing the deal by going 13-16 from the charity stripe. The win was Coach Coffey's 170th, breaking a deadlock with the previous record-holder to reach the summit.
 
Coffey would build on this win to end the 2025-2026 campaign with an overall record of 177-77, continuing to advance the record. Coffey overtook Andrew Goodemote's previous record and now stands alone at the top. Throughout his 10 seasons, Coffey has led the Pioneers to three Empire 8 championships and an Empire 8 regular-season title. Since his arrival in 2016, Coach Coffey has brought a consistent winning culture to the program.
 

JANUARY 14TH | WOMEN'S HOCKEY WELCOMES AVA AMEDRO FOR 10TH ANNUAL GOLD RIBBON GAME
 
The Pioneers revived the Gold Ribbon Game this year, continuing a long tradition of promoting awareness for the fight against childhood cancer. Communities and organizations united to provide solidarity and support to families affected. Utica women's hockey also invited Ava Amedro to help provide awareness before and during the matchup. Ava, a local youth hockey player, battled childhood cancer before returning to the ice following successful treatment. Her story inspires hope in everyone who faces the challenges associated with battling cancer, a story that the Pioneers helped promote with the return of the Gold Ribbon Game. The Pioneers fell short vs a formidable Worcester St. team in a hard-fought 2-1 loss. Historically, the Pioneers hold a 7-3 record in Gold Ribbon games following this year's iteration.
 


JANUARY 27TH | MEN'S BASKETBALL CLUTCHES EMPIRE 8 CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH VS SUNY POLY
 
In a rematch of last year's Empire 8 Championship, the Pioneers remained victorious with an 84-79 rivalry win vs SUNY Poly. The first crosstown showdown of the season saw the Pioneers survive a second-half surge from the hosts in a heated game. Dayion Thompson led the scoring with 20 points, including a perfect performance from the foul line, shooting 11-11, with clutch makes down the stretch to close out the win. Keyaton Parks solidified the victory with a massive block in the final possession, putting the Pioneers over their Route 12 rival. The Pioneers showed incredible fight in a pressure-packed away trip against their local opponent, with a huge crowd from both sides showing out to demonstrate the weight that the rivalry has held since SUNY Poly joined the conference before the 2024-2025 season.
 

JANUARY 31ST | WOMEN'S WRESTLING HOSTS SECOND HOME EVENT
 
The Utica University women's wrestling program held its second-ever home event in school history, welcoming an array of competitors to Miga Court for the first-ever Utica Round Robin. The event featured athletes from over five other schools, including Ithaca College, Springfield Technical, Nassau Community College, Bergen Community College, and Onondaga Community College.

At 131 pounds, Dakoda House fought well, securing a fifth-place finish in the most competitive weight class. The freshman fighter competed hard, battling well against one of the meet's most outstanding wrestler selections. She also defeated fellow Pioneer Octavia Dragotta during the action. Dragotta had an excellent effort in her own right during what was the first-ever home meet for both wrestlers. At 180 pounds, Evelyn Enriquez got off to a stellar start against Karen Ramirez, surging out ahead after the starting whistle before eventually losing steam in a narrow defeat. At 207 pounds, Utica competitors Paityn Billard and Natalie Enriquez were the only two active wrestlers, leading to two separate bouts between the pair of Pioneers. In the matches, Enriquez managed to best Billard despite the momentum shifting between the wrestlers.
 

FEBRUARY 7TH | MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PICK UP MASSIVE SENIOR DAY WINS OVER HOUGHTON
 
The Utica women's and men's basketball teams both dispelled Houghton in a pair of Senior Day victories in early February, gaining some momentum down the stretch of the regular season.
 
The women opened the festivities with a high-scoring 86-75 victory vs a championship-contending Houghton squad that entered the game with a 16-4 record. The Pioneers dominated down low with a 49-28 rebounding advantage in addition to shooting 70% in the paint. Offensive efficiency was key in the fourth quarter as the hosts closed out the game shooting 75% from the arc and 58% from the field. This upset was one of the program's largest wins over the past few years and showcased a great glimpse of the future, as many underclassmen starred alongside the seniors during a contest celebrating the accomplishments of the blue and orange veterans.
 

The men's team enjoyed their senior day as well, continuing their great season with an 86-76 victory over Houghton. The Pioneers managed the game comfortably, led by a dominant performance in the paint, outscoring the visitors 60-28 down low. The hosts took an early lead and held on for the remainder of the game, showcasing a dominant Senior Day spectacle. Liam Teague led the team in scoring with 21 points on a day in which he was honored as one of the team's senior stars. The Class of 2026 compiled a record of 85-26 over their four seasons, also going 54-12 in the Empire 8 Conference, while winning two Empire 8 Tournament Championships and making three trips to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.
 

FEBRUARY 13TH | SETH RICHARDSON HONORED AS MEN'S WRESTLING DOMINATES ELMIRA
 
In the Pioneers' third-ever home meet, the team faced off against Southern foe Elmira College in a much-anticipated dual meet. Ahead of the proceedings, the Pioneers honored a graduating athlete who had been with the program since its inception - Seth Richardson. Richardson wrapped up his career with the second-most wins in program history, including the second-most wins by pin and third-most wins by tech fall. Richardson helped lead the program through its first three years of existence and set up the program for the future by helping mentor young athletes within the program.
 
In the contest, the team won three of five bouts to take an edge before adding a series of forfeits to win the dual 48-10 and move to 5-2 on the season.
 
 
FEBRUARY 17TH | MCKENZIE SIMMONS SURPASSES 1000 POINTS IN CROSSTOWN SHOWDOWN VICTORY
 
Simmons put in an inspiring performance during her final collegiate game, as she became the 16th player in program history to surpass 1,000 points, doing so in the fourth quarter to help clinch a massive crosstown showdown victory over rival SUNY Poly by a 64-55 final. Simmons racked up 24 points in her final outing with the Pioneers, hitting two three-pointers and providing a veteran presence down the stretch, as she helped the team close out the Wildcats by going 8-8 from the charity stripe. Additionally, Simmons recorded a double-double, pulling in 11 rebounds and taking her place as the star player in a spectacular season finale. She joined Vanessa Hall among the ranks of the Pioneers' 1,000-point scorers, as both players reached the milestone this past season. Simmons also capped off her career by receiving the illustrious Richard "Dick" Miller Award for her contributions to Utica athletics.
 

FEBRUARY 20TH | MEN'S HOCKEY CLINCHES 10TH STRAIGHT REGULAR SEASON TITLE WITH SHOOTOUT WIN OVER CHATHAM
 
The No. 9-ranked Pioneers captured their 10th straight conference regular season title with a dramatic shootout victory over nationally respected Chatham, denying the Cougars a statement win against a national championship-contending Pioneers side.
 
The Pioneers built a 2-0 early lead thanks to goals by Hunter Longhi and Gabriel Lundberg. The lead looked insecure as the Cougars piled on the pressure, eventually finding two goals of their own to tie the game. An early third-period goal from Andrew Della Rovere looked to secure the win, but Chatham refused to stay down, equalizing again in the last minute of regulation time. A stalemate in overtime sent the intense game into a dramatic shootout, where senior goalkeeper Kyle Curtin saved both of the Cougars' attempts, while Aydin Parekh and Nick Ahern scored to secure the win. Curtin's heroics clinched the regular-season title and another tournament campaign with home-ice advantage for the Pioneers.
 

FEBRUARY 21ST | DRAKE MORSE NETS FOUR GOALS IN 10-3 WIN TO CAP OFF REGULAR SEASON
 
The Pioneers closed out their 25th regular season in dominant fashion, crushing the formidable Chatham Cougars 10-3. The team rallied behind captain Drake Morse, who bagged a career-high four goals in a stunning regular-season finale. The Pioneers would enter the UCHC Tournament as the #1 seed, earning a first-round bye and hosting their semifinal matchup.
 
Utica started the scoring with a late first-period goal from Nicolas Rogers, before opening the floodgates in the second with four more, including Morse scoring his first two of the game. The Pioneers continued to pour it on with five more goals in the third, outshooting the Cougars 52-24 for the game. Morse, one of the Pioneer captains, led the scoring while putting in a five-point performance, while Andrew Della Rovere added three assists. Shotstopper Kyle Curtin continued his fine form with 21 saves in the net. The win improved Utica's record to 17-7-1 as the Pioneers looked forward to hosting the UCHC semifinals on home ice, after securing the #1 seed and first-round bye.
 
Morse was the 10th Pioneer in program history to reach the four-gold threshold in a single game, and the first to do so since Lucas Hermann and Remy Parker did so during the 2022-2023 season.
 

FEBRUARY 25TH | SHEAHAN STARS AS PIONEERS TAKE DOWN MANHATTANVILLE IN UCHC FIRST ROUND
 
The first round of the UCHC Tournament saw the Pioneers take down sixth-seeded Manhattanville University 1-0 in a tight win that took place in their old stomping grounds at the Adirondack Bank Center. Goalkeeper Katie Sheahan was the hero of the night, shutting the door on the visitors with 31 total saves, including 16 in the final period as the pressure built for the opposition. The lone goal took place on a power play late in the first period, scored by senior captain Tess Barrett, who saved her second goal of the season for a crucial time, banking her shot off the backboards to provide the decisive moment of the matchup. The contest was a spectacular showing for a young program and featured superb contributions from young players, including Sheahan, alongside rookie center Samantha Dobrzynski.
 
 
FEBRUARY 27TH | COACH DUFFY-COFRIN EARNS FIRST CAREER COACHING WIN WITH THE PIONEERS
 
Women's lacrosse leader Andrea Duffy-Cofrin secured her first win as head coach of the program with a 10-4 victory up north against Plattsburgh State.
 
In the team's second matchup, Coach Duffy-Cofrin, along with a veteran defensive unit flanked by goalkeeper Makalya Purdy, managed to get the defense organized, stunting the Cardinals' attack and holding them to just four scores. Defense would be a staple for the program throughout Coach Duffy-Cofrin's first season, as the team would end with the lowest single-season goals allowed average in program history. The offense also proved to be extremely balanced in the victory, as seven separate Pioneers ended with one or more points in the contest. The Pioneers would speed out to a 7-2 lead at halftime, which they then built upon in the second half to bring Coach Duffy-Cofrin her first tally in the win column as a part of the program.
 
 
FEBRUARY 27TH & 28TH | BASEBALL EXPLODES FOR 64 RUNS IN FOUR-GAME SWEEP TO OPEN 2025 CAMPAIGN
 
Pioneer Baseball opened its season with a trip to Dunmore, Pennsylvania, where it dominantly swept Penn State Scranton. Utica scored 64 runs in the four-game series, maximizing its offensive opportunities in the quartet of tilts.
 
The Pioneers averaged a dominant .365 batting average, while averaging a .519 on-base percentage. Averaging over 12 hits a game, the Pioneers made the most of their away trip. Ty Montrose and Matthew Paolucci led the way with eight hits each, while Mike Rockwell batted in 13 runners. Overall, the Pioneers blew away any question marks surrounding the team prior to the season-opening series, getting started in emphatic fashion as they created massive momentum right from the jump, which led to a stellar 2026 campaign.
 
 
FEBRUARY 27TH & 28TH | KAIDEN MCCASKILL, MEN'S DMR TAKE HOME EMPIRE 8 INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
In early March, the Pioneers added a few Empire 8 Indoor Championships to the program's all-time tally. This season, it was a pair of men's events in which the team took home gold, as Kaiden McCaskill won an individual championship in the men's high jump, while the Distance Medley Relay team of Tobias Jeralds, Bennett Melita, Cameron Hoffis, and Forest Martin as secured a combined gold in the team event.
 
The Pioneers secured their first of two Empire 8 Championships on Friday afternoon of the Friday-Saturday event, as the quartet of previously mentioned runners raced their way to Championship gold in the Men's Distance Medley Relay. The four athletes combined for a time of 10:22.03, taking home the first-place finish as they crossed the line more than nine seconds before the second-place team would finish. That time would also rank as the second-best time in program history.
 
The Pioneers' second Empire 8 Championship came on Saturday afternoon, when junior jumper Kaiden McCaskill managed to out-hop the competition in the Men's High Jump. McCaskill would clear the 1.96m mark on his second try, achieving the status of Empire 8 Indoor Champion.
 
 
MARCH 1ST | GYMNASTICS HONORS SENIORS DURING HOME TRI-MEET AT VALLEY GYMNASTICS
 
The Utica University gymnastics team held its Senior Day festivities down at Valley Gymnastics for the first time in program history, honoring a trio of spectacular athletes, which included Olivia Fragala, Camille Lindley, and Haley Miller.
 
The Pioneers opened the afternoon on vault, combining for the team's second-highest score of the afternoon, a 47.250. Leading the Pioneers was Alisya Dorman, who posted a team high 9.575. Grace Marra and Madison Villani each posted a 9.525, while Jenna DiPalo finished with a 9.450. Haley Miller rounded out the vaulting scorecard for the Pioneers with a 9.175. On the uneven bars, the Pioneers combined for a total of 45.700, paced by the senior Lindley's third top finish of the season, posting a 9.475 to win the event. Christina Troche posted the team's second-highest score with a 9.175, followed by Claire Reider with a 9.100. Marra and Dorman rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers, each posting an 8.975. Utica combined for a total of 46.000 on the balance beam, led by Marra's 9.700 in the event, followed by Dorman's 9.650. Miller continued to shine, posting a 9.250. Villani and DiPalo made up the remainder of the Pioneer lineup, posting an 8.800 and an 8.600, respectively. Floor once again proved the strongest for the Pioneers, combining for a 47.600 in the final rotation. Marra continued to lead the way, posting a 9.775, followed by Dorman with a 9.700. Emily Plone managed a 9.600 with her efforts. Troche and Addison Ferri rounded out the lineup for the Pioneers with a 9.325 and a 9.200, respectively.
 
 
MARCH 7TH | MEN'S HOCKEY CAPTURES UCHC CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 4-1 WIN OVER GENESEO
 
The Pioneers captured their sixth UCHC Tournament Championship with an electric 4-1 victory over rival SUNY Geneseo at the Adirondack Bank Center. With the win, Utica secured yet another conference crown and earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament, where the Pioneers would play on home ice after making a monumental leap into the top-4 of the final NPI rankings.
 
Utica broke through in the first period when senior forward John Gutt scored off a rebound to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead. Despite opportunities for the Ice Knights in the second period, the lead remained for the Pioneers heading into the third period. However, with the game ticking away and moments after a successful penalty kill, the visitors found the equalizer in a frustrating fashion. Minutes later, junior forward Nicholas Rogers took matters into his own hands, leaving four defenders in the dust as he buried the wrap-around shot to retake the lead. Desperate to save their season, the Ice Knights pulled their keeper in an attempt to snag a tying goal. The Pioneers took full advantage and found two empty-net insurance goals via Drake Morse and Adian Hughes, securing yet another conference tournament title for the blue and orange.
 

MARCH 13TH & 14TH | TRACK AND FIELD TAKES HOME THREE ALL-AMERICANS FROM INDOOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
The Pioneers managed to send three superstar athletes to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, which took place down in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
Spencer Borghardt, Laura Suppa, and Allie Cary all arrived in Alabama with big aspirations, and all three would deliver, as the trio returned with three Second Team All-American accolades. Borghardt led off for the orange and blue, competing in the very first event of the meet, taking on the nation's strongest in the Men's Weight Throw. The senior strongman would make his mark in the contest, grabbing an 11th-place finish with a long-toss of 18.06.
 
Suppa was up next, taking on the 60m Hurdles during an afternoon preliminary race. Suppa would showcase her usual speed, grabbing 10th place thanks to a blistering 8.71 time, however, she would fall just short of the cutline needed to make Saturday's finals, as only the top eight would qualify for the race to crown the National Champion. Despite this, Suppa became the second Pioneer to be honored with All-America Second Team honors during the weekend.
 
Cary took center stage on Saturday for the Pioneers, competing in the Women's Shot Put to finish out the weekend. Cary, one of two sophomores participating in the event, managed to solidify her spot among Division III's best, grabbing a top toss of 13.29m to take 10th place, securing the team's third All-American selection of the weekend as she achieved All-American Second Team.
 
MARCH 14TH | MEN'S HOCKEY EARNS FIRST NCAA TOURNAMENT SHUTOUT IN 3-0 WIN OVER WILLIAMS
 
Pioneer Hockey began yet another NCAA Tournament Campaign within the Adirondack Bank Center, as the team continued its streak of hosting first-round NCAA games. The program, to this point, has never played a true road game in the NCAA Tournament, and that trend continued with their first-round matchup against the Cinderella NESCAC Champion Williams College.
 
The Pioneers battled a talented Williams squad to a near-standstill over the course of the 60-minute matchup; however, it was a brief three-minute spurt in the second period that would prove to be the difference, as Aidan Hughes, Andrew Della Rovere, and John Gutt would all rip the cord within just 180 seconds of each other to provide all the scoring in the first round matchup. On defense, Kyle Curtin and the Pioneer blue-liners would have an all-time performance, giving the program its first-ever shutout win in its NCAA Tournament history. This was an even more impressive feat given the Ephs' 3.6 goal-per-game offense, one of the top marks in the tournament.
 
The win advanced the Pioneers back to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fourth consecutive season.
 

MARCH 20TH | LANGSTON FINISHES SECOND AT NATIONALS, LANGSTON AND MARRA ACHIEVE ALL-AMERICAN NODS
 
Women's Gymnastics completed its third, and most successful, campaign to date with a massive showing at the NCGA National Championships held in Cortland, New York. The team set a new program record for the most qualifying gymnasts as the trio of Grace Marra, Alisya Dorman, and Alyssa Langston competed at the pinnacle of NCGA gymnastics alongside other top talent in the country.
 
Langston, who made her first career nationals appearance, set a new school record, season, and career high in the uneven bars, posting a stellar 9.850, finishing in second place. With the second-place finish, the highest finish in an event at nationals in program history, she collected her first career, and the program's fifth overall, All-American accolade.
 
Marra collected her fourth consecutive All-American nod after bringing down the house with a 9.825 in the floor exercise. Marra, the program's first All-American, now has two nods in the all-around and two in the floor exercise, collecting the program's sixth overall All-American finish.
 
Alisya Dorman, who has enjoyed major successes during her freshman campaign, became the program's fifth different competitor to qualify for nationals, competing in the balance beam and posting a final score of 9.525.
 

MARCH 28TH | WOMEN'S LACROSSE COMPLETES CRUCIAL COMEBACK AGAINST NAZARETH
 
The women's lacrosse team hit its stride in an early Empire 8 matchup at Gaetano Stadium against a tough Nazareth side. The Pioneers found themselves up against a wall just over midway through the contest, as the Golden Flyers managed to capture a 7-4 lead moments into the second half of play. However, the blue and orange would completely flip the script immediately after that Nazareth score, as the Golden Flyers wouldn't net another goal for the rest of the match. Makalya Purdy and the Pioneer defense locked in, shutting out the Golden Flyers over the remaining 29 minutes, including helping the team mount a 6-0 in the final quarter to cement the huge home win.
 
Seven separate Pioneers netted a goal in the contest, but junior Maria Stuhlman covered the score sheet, recording eight total points, via four goals and assists. Attackers Bella Kolb and Alyssa Specchio both totaled three points, Kolb via a hat trick, and Specchio with two goals and one assist, the team's only other not from Stuhlman.
 
The win continued the program's early momentum in its first season under new head coach Andrea Duffy-Cofrin, as they tore through the Empire 8 campaign with only a few hiccups after downing the Golden Flyers.
 

APRIL 3RD & 4TH | ALLIE CARY CAPTURES FOUR FIRST-PLACE FINISHES IN ONE WEEKEND
 
Sophomore strongwoman Allie Cary captured three All-American nods during the course of her second season in the blue and orange. However, one of her greatest feats was achieved during a raucous weekend when she brought home four first-place finishes across two meets, sweeping gold medals in all three women's throwing events at the Utica Pioneer Spring Invitational.
 
Cary's herculean heroics began on Friday afternoon at the Cortland Red Dragon Open, participating and dominating in both the Discus and Hammer Throw. In the Hammer, Cary finished fourth amongst the field of 24, landing a top finish thanks to her 47.57m toss. Following that, Cary would cement her place among the event's elite thanks to her showing in the Discus. Cary would top the charts with a 44.30m chuck, taking first by a colossal 6.35m margin. Her Discus display also ranked ninth in all of NCAA Division III at the time, while shattering the previous Pioneer record for the event.
 
Cary continued to display her talent on Saturday, taking home her second, third, and fourth gold medals of the weekend as she topped the field of 21 athletes in the Hammer Throw, the field of 20 in the Shot Put, and the field of 19 in the Discus. Cary launched a 47.34m mark in her first attempt of the morning, which would be good enough to grant her the gold in the Hammer. If that wasn't enough, she also captured gold in the shot put, taking home her third top finish of the weekend, and in her third different event, as she finished with a 12.85m. To top it all off, Cary secured the triple crown, winning the Discus with a 36.90m chuck.
 

APRIL 11TH | SOFTBALL SNAGS STELLAR 11-6 WIN OVER GENESEO ON SENIOR DAY, STRONG SETS SINGLE SEASON TRIPLES RECORD
 
Pioneer Softball took on the eventual Empire 8 Regular Season Champion SUNY Geneseo Knights during the hosts' Senior Day at Greenman Field. After honoring the team's lone senior, Pioneer ace Maggie Habernig, the team would fall in the first matchup against the slugging SUNY side. However, the Pioneers would make some massive adjustments in game two to steal a massive victory by an 11-6 score. During the win, Pioneer freshman Mya Strong would break the previous record for single-season triples with her 7th slug of the season. The rookie accomplished this feat just after the midway mark of the 2026 campaign, eventually moving the meter to nine triples to set both the single-season and career records after her debut season. Kari Graziano, another Pioneer rookie, got a statement win in the circle, moving her record to 5-1 as the underclassmen contributions helped a young Pioneer squad secure a standout win, which they carried into the Empire 8 Tournament.
 

APRIL 11TH | MEN'S LACROSSE BESTS BROCKPORT IN HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED MIKE PARNELL MATCHUP
 
The Utica University men's lacrosse team treated fans to a spectacle in the team's annual Mike Parnell Game, a staple of the Utica Athletics calendar. In this edition, the team battled SUNY Brockport in a conference clash with major postseason implications. During the tense tilt, and in front of a huge crowd, the Pioneers did not disappoint, as the hosts shot out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back, taking down Brockport by a 12-8 final to continue a winning streak that would cap off at 5 games. Four different Pioneers recorded two goals each in a balanced offensive affair as the team improved to 3-2 in conference play.
 

APRIL 15TH | CONNOR FORD BECOMES ALL-TIME PITCHING APPEARANCES LEADER IN MIDWEEK MATCHUP AGAINST RUSSELL SAGE
 
Veteran Pioneer reliever Connor Ford became the most utilized pitcher in Pioneer history during a midweek contest against Russell Sage, as the crafty lefty entered his 46th career outing, capturing the program record for career pitching appearances in the process. The New Jersey native wrapped up his illustrious career with 49 appearances and 104.2 innings of action, grabbing 79 career strikeouts and helping the Pioneers out of many-a-jam.
 

APRIL 18TH | PIONEERS GO 6-0 AS MEN'S LACROSSE CLINCHES POSTSEASON ON SENIOR DAY AGAINST ALFRED, BASEBALL NOTCHES SENIOR DAY SWEEP OVER HOUGHTON
 
It was a great day to be a Pioneer on Saturday, April 18th as the Utica University spring sports teams all came away with wins, helping the department go 6-0 on the day, including three senior day victories and one win that set history for the men's lacrosse program.
 
Softball opened up the afternoon, taking on Houghton in a pair of conference matchups down in the Southern Tier. The Pioneer offense came alive across the two-game set, sweeping the contests in dominating fashion as they outscored the hosts 32-6.
 
Baseball had an equally dominant day, as the team celebrated its storied senior class with a pair of W's against the Highlanders, winning by scores of 7-2 and 7-3.
 
The lacrosse teams wrapped up the afternoon by each taking on the Alfred University Saxons, with the women defeating their southern foe 16-3 down in Alfred, while the men's team had one of its most exciting outings in program history, honoring the team's seniors while defeating the Saxons 14-12 in front of a packed Gaetano Stadium.
 
APRIL 20TH | MEN'S GOLF TAKES FOURTH PLACE AT EMPIRE 8 CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
Men's golf wrapped up its Empire 8 Championship in the spring, ending with an impressive 4th overall finish. The top-four finish was led by Nathan Macdonald, who piloted the Pioneers to a +30 score, good for a T-7 finish. Freshman Koltin Pickell showed out with a T-15 finish at +37, showing great promise in his debut season. Aydin Parekh and Neil Roman also finished in the top 25, placing 22nd (+42)  and 24th (+45), respectively. 
 
APRIL 28TH | KOOPER KNABE BECOMES CAREER PITCHING WINS LEADER THANKS TO NO-HIT OUTING
 
Another Pioneer pitcher reached a massive milestone in the 2026 campaign, as longtime blue and orange ace Kooper Knabe grabbed a huge program record in the greatest performance possible. Up against Elmira, and needing a win to keep pace with SUNY Poly for the #4 seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Tournament, the Pioneers gave the ball to the always-reliable Knabe, who proceeded to display pure domination on the rubber across all seven innings against the Soaring Eagles.
 
Knabe logged a complete-game no-hitter against the purple-clad opposition, guiding the Pioneers to a 19-1 win and breaking a big program record in the process. With the no-hit outing, Knabe managed to become the program's all-time leader in career pitching victories, passing Griffin Baur as he recorded his 18th career win. Knabe's heroics led the Pioneers to the #4 seed, and a trip back to the double-elimination portion of the Empire 8 Tournament. The Cortland native ended his career with 140 K's.
 

APRIL 28TH | MEN'S LACROSSE NABS FIRST POSTSEASON WIN IN PROGRAM HISTORY, CONSIDINE SETS MULTIPLE PROGRAM RECORDS
 
In their first postseason matchup since 2013, the Utica men's lacrosse team made history in emphatic fashion, heading on the road and defeating #4 seeded Hartwick by a tight 13-12 final to snag the program's first ever postseason win in team history. The matchup was an all-time classic, with both teams throwing alternating haymakers as the Pioneers managed to hold on as the final buzzer sounded.
 
The Pioneers got out to leads of 4-1, 7-3, and 10-5 at different points in the contest, but the Hawks responded each time, eventually knotting the game up at 12-apiece with just under four minutes remaining. This was just in time for Ryan Hollenbeck to net the decisive score, as he received a Michael Reid pass to being the score to 13-12, a lead the Pioneers wouldn't relinquish as they held possession for the remainder of regulation and secured the historic victory. Lucas Donahue and Ryan Considine led the Pioneers with four goals each, while senior leader Noah Erickson finished with four assists.
 

APRIL 28TH | WOMEN'S LACROSSE WRAPS UP HISTORIC DAY WITH HOME POSTSEASON WIN OVER HARTWICK, PURDY SETS CAREER WINS RECORD
 
Moments after the results of the men's game went final, the women held serve, as the Pioneer women's lacrosse team also defeated Hartwick in Empire 8 First Round action, felling the visiting Hawks by an 18-9 final as they controlled the contest from the opening draw. The Hawks would fight, knotting the game up at 6-6 shortly before halftime, but the Pioneers would continue their powerful performance, as they had 12 of the next 15 goals to move on in the bracket.
 
Alyssa Specchio had an all-star outing, contributing eight points thanks to five goals and three assists. Alexis Alteri and Bella Kolb also had productive showings, with each player netting four goals.
 
APRIL 29TH | BASEBALL LOGS HUGE SWEEP OVER SUNY POLY TO IMPROVE PLAYOFF POSITIONING
 
The Utica Baseball team completed a sweep over crosstown rivals SUNY Poly in a victorious road trip, which saw two incredibly close games, both of which were a long time coming, as the two teams struggled to complete the series due to early-season weather. Eventually, the series was placed at the end of the conference season, and it couldn't have worked out better for the Pioneers as they defeated their crosstown rival to gain some energy down the stretch and into postseason play.
 
The Pioneers took the first game with a score of 12-11 after going to the 12th inning. Justin Notargiacomo shut down the Wildcats in a 1-2-3 order, prior to Brendan Barry sending a solo home run into orbit to take the lead with his first at-bat. Notargiacomo resumed his shutdown pitching to complete the save and win with a clinical strikeout pitch. The closer faced 15 batters, allowing zero hits and runs, compiling five strikeouts.
 
The second game resulted in another close win, with the Pioneers defeating SUNY Poly 7-6. Utica scored seven runs on nine hits, led by Mike Rockwell, who exploded for three hits, including a triple, before mashing the ball over the left field fence to give the visitors a vital insurance run. To close out the game, it was Notargiacomo who once again delivered two massive innings to earn another save. With an impressive rivalry sweep, the Pioneers' record rose to 20-14, improving their playoff standing, eventually seeing them avoid the play-in matchup, where SUNY Poly would be eliminated.
 

MAY 1ST & 2ND | TRACK AND FIELD TAKES HOME SEVEN INDIVIDUAL EMPIRE 8 CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
The Utica University track and field team kept up its stellar momentum during the outdoor championship season, as the program posted a superb seven Empire 8 Outdoor Individual Championships. Of the gold medalists, five different Pioneers achieved one top finish each, while Allie Cary kept up her incredible season with two separate gold medals in addition to being named the Empire 8 Women's Outdoor Championships Field Athlete of the Meet.

MAY 7TH | BASEBALL WINS ALL-TIME CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CLASSIC OVER KEUKA 12-11 IN 12 INNINGS
 
The Pioneers took down sixth-ranked Keuka 12-11 in an instant 12-inning classic, which featured a heroic grand slam and clutch pitching to secure an incredible postseason win.
 
Utica took off in the fourth inning, with Lance Berger and Matthew Paolucci launching home runs, giving the Pioneers a 7-3 lead. Keuka had home runs of their own, taking the lead back in the seventh inning as they were on the precipice of eliminating the blue and orange in come-from-behind fashion. With their backs against the wall, the Pioneers rose to the occasion, loading the bases before senior Micah Fiorello tied the game with a stunning grand slam. The Pioneers closed out the game in the bottom of the 12th thanks to a dramatic Alex Renner walk-off RBI single in what was easily the game of the year for the #4-seeded Pioneers. They would advance to the double-elimination portion of the bracket for the first time since 2024.
 
 
MAY 21ST & 22ND | CARY AND MELITA CEMENT ALL-AMERICAN NODS AT OUTDOOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
The final event of the 2025-2026 academic year took place in Wisconsin as the trio of Bennett Melita, Allie Cary, and Wayne Spencer headed to the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships for the first time.
 
Wayne Spencer opened up action at the National Championships on Thursday afternoon, with the rookie competing in the long jump for his first action at the pinnacle of Division III Track and Field. The Empire 8 Indoor Rookie of the Year wrapped up a stellar campaign that also saw him take home his first ever Empire 8 Championship as he became the Empire 8 Outdoor Long Jump Champion a few weeks prior.
 
Later in the afternoon, Cary, who qualified for both the discus and shot put, participated in the former for her first career Division III Outdoor National Championships action. The Second Team Indoor All-American would have a standout showing, finishing in the top half of the competition as she secured yet another All-American nod, grabbing tenth place out of 22 thanks to a 43.86m toss. Cary just barely missed out on the final round, as only the top eight receive First Team All-American status and a shot at the finals of each throwing event. However, the sophomore had a stellar start to her National Championship outing. Grabbing her second All-American of the 2025-2026 season.
 
To wrap up day one, Melita took to the track, gearing up for his first ever appearance at the Division III Outdoor National Championships as he readied for the 3000m Steeplechase. Melita needed a top-12 finish to qualify for the next day's final race, however, he would fall just short, still securing a Second Team All-American honor in the process as he finished 15th with a time of 9:10.30. The Pioneers' long distance leader help a top-8 position for the first bunch of laps, but slipped out of finals contention during the final few turns. Despite that, it was an excellent campaign for Melita, who also took home three Empire 8 Championships during the season and qualified for his second NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship back in the fall.
 
Cary completed the meet for the Pioneers on Friday, taking on her second event as she battled it out in the shot put. The Pioneer sophomore also qualified for the Indoor Shot Put National Championships back in March, making this her second time competing against Division III's best shot put athletes. Within the stacked field, Cary would launch a 13.06m toss to take 14th, achieving her third All-American honor of the season, and her second at this event alone. Cary wrapped up one of the greatest seasons in Utica history, taking home a trio of All-Americans alongside two Empire 8 Championships.
