UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's tennis team returned home Saturday afternoon, taking on SUNY Geneseo at the Utica Tennis Courts. The Pioneers battled throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell to the Knights, 7-0.
Utica opened the match with doubles play, with Lyndsey Tiedemann (Salt Point, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) and Averi Kraeger (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) teaming up at No. 1 doubles. The duo battled Natalie Pipes and JoAnn Catalano before falling 6-0. Hannah Loebbaka (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and Andrea May (McGraw, NY/McGraw) competed at No. 2 doubles, while Saige Burton (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) and Hannah Slater (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) took the court at No. 3, with Geneseo earning 6-0 decisions in each matchup.
The Pioneers continued to compete in singles action, with several players finding opportunities to put games on the board. Kraeger earned two games at No. 2 singles against Samantha Rava, while Alexis Brennan (Vernon, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) picked up a game in the second set at No. 3 singles against Rachel Molloy. Tiedemann also earned a game in the opening set at No. 1 singles against Pipes, while Loebbaka battled at No. 4 singles against Lauren Levatino.
Andrea May (McGraw, NY/McGraw) and Saige Burton (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) rounded out the singles lineup at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, as the Pioneers continued to battle through the final matches of the afternoon.
The Pioneers will head to Houghton on Saturday, September 26th for a matchup with the Highlanders.
