Andrew Weimer

Andrew Weimer was named head baseball coach in the summer of 2009. Weimer, a New Hartford native, joined UC after spending six years as a professional baseball player.

After three seasons as head coach, Weimer has compiled an overall record of 25-81.  This past year he led the Pioneers to a 10-29 overall record marking the first time in six years the program has hit double-digits wins.  He currently holds school-records with total wins in the Empire 8 Conference (nine) and most conference wins in a season (five).  In the first three years competing in the E8, UC posted a .108 winning percentage (4-37) and since, under Weimer, have compiled a .257 percentage (9-35). Following a slow start in 2012, UC streaked in early April posting a 7-7 record from April 2 – April 28 and went on to record an 8-14 ledger in non-league play.  Four Pioneers were honored Empire 8 All-Conference to conclude the season.

In his second year at the helm, Weimer set a school-record with five wins in the competitive Empire 8 Conference, including two victories against RIT and Stevens and one against Ithaca.

In his inaugural season, Weimer led the Pioneers to seven victories and the highlight of the season included the Pioneers' victory over Empire 8 Conference rival and northeast power Ithaca College for the first time in four years (16 games).

Prior to joining UC, Weimer spent time with five different professional organizations,
including the Tampa Bay Devil Rays minor league system as well as the Cincinnati Reds farm team. The 6-foot-2 right handed reliever was drafted in 2003 out of Le Moyne College in the 15th round (428th overall selection) of the Major League Draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

After two seasons in the New York – Penn League, the sidearm pitcher signed with the New Haven County Cutters of the Can-Am League for the ’05 season. In 2006 he played just two games for the Dayton Dragons (Single A, Cincinnati Reds) of the Midwest League before returning to New Haven for the remainder of the next two seasons.

The Bridgeport Bluefish of the ALBS (Atlantic League Professional Baseball) signed Weimer after he began the 2008 season with the Nashua Pride of the Can-Am League. In his 20 appearances in 2008 he went 5-2 with a 4.91 ERA. His 2008 ERA for the Bluefish was just above four at 4.05, while opposing hitters batted .276 against him. In 2009 he played in 11 games and posted a team best 1.29 ERA in 14.0 innings pitched. He allowed 14 hits and just two earned runs en route to a 1-0 record on the mound.

At Division I Le Moyne College, Weimer finished his career 20-7 with a 2.13 ERA with 22 saves in 85 career appearances. He went 7-1 with a 0.74 ERA and seven saves as a senior while the Dolphins won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship and earned a trip to the NCAA tournament.

Weimer earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology/criminology at Le Moyne in May of 2003 while posting a 3.4 grade point average. He earned Northeast District All-Academic team honors, MAAC All-Academic Team status and was also on the dean’s list.

The 1999 graduate New Hartford High School was also an assistant coach at Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) from 2004-2009 and he has been an instructor at the Field of Dreams athletic facility since 2003. Prior to accepting the position at UC he also held his own holiday pitching clinic at MVCC.

Weimer currently resides in Utica with his wife Laura. He also doubles as a Financial Representative with the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.
