Feddie Sarus, Global Studies teacher at West Canada Valley High School, is in his first year as an assistant football coach at Utica College. Sarus coached the defensive line and linebackers at Hamilton College in 2010 and 2011.  Prior to Hamilton he was the head varsity coach at West Canada Valley High School in Newport, N.Y., from 2004 to 2009, and an assistant defensive coach at Hartwick College from 2001 to 2003. He will continue to coach the linebackers for the Pioneers.

Sarus played linebacker at Hartwick from 1997 to 2001 for head coach Steve Stetson and was mentored by defensive coordinator Mike Tracy.  He was reunited with Stetson and Tracy at Hamilton College in 2010.  As a player, Sarus was named a team captain as a sophomore, played in two ECAC Championship games, and ranks in the top 10 with over 200 tackles at Hartwick. The Professional Football Association selected him to play in three bowl games in Minneapolis and Orlando.  Between Hartwick coaching stints, Sarus went to Europe to play football and coach for the Eidsvoll 1814s near Oslo, Norway.  He also played one season with the then Mohawk Valley Vikings Semi-Pro team in the summer of 2004.

Sarus earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Hartwick in 2001. He went on to receive his master's degree in middle school mathematics from Minnesota's Walden University. He attended nearby Whitesboro High School from 1993 to 1997.  Sarus currently resides in Schuyler with his wife Dianne who is a teacher in the Whitesboro School District.
