Utica College Head Softball Coach Pat Mineo announced the hiring of Sabrina Stransky as the program’s assistant coach in the Summer of 2019.  Stransky, a 2018 graduate of Utica College, will assist Mineo with all facets of the program including scouting, recruiting, practice and game preparation, as well as day-to-day operations in the office.

Stransky recently graduated from Utica with a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation. She has spent the past year working in the Therapeutic Recreation department at Island Nursing and Rehab Center in Holtsville, NY. While in her undergraduate years, Stransky gained valuable experience in her field of study with prominent local organizations such as the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Presbyterian Homes and Services, and the Kelberman Center.

A four year member of the Pioneers from 2015 to 2018, Stransky helped steer the way for Utica to notch a pair of Empire 8 conference tournament appearances in 2016 and 2018. The Pioneers played for the title in the latter tournament appearance during her senior year. The squad won 77 games in four seasons with Stransky on the roster.

Stransky was a versatile player on the diamond that was utilized in multiple roles in Coach Mineo’s lineup during her career. She found much success in the circle as a pitcher, and spent many of her outings outside the circle working in the first base position, where she was a premier run producer for the Pioneers. As a pitcher, she had a career Earned Run Average of 5.34 in 48 appearances. She started 21 career games for Utica, and notched a total of 53 strikeouts. She threw over 50 innings in her junior and senior years as part of an expanded pitching workload. At the plate, Stransky was a career .298 hitter with thirteen home runs.

Her best offensive season came as a senior when she hit .345 while knocking in a conference-best 31 RBI. She also added six home runs, and impressively produced at that level while only recording 87 at-bats. At one point, she collected a total of six RBI in a single game in an early season win over New York University.

The two-time All-Conference performer ranks in the top ten in program history for her career totals in RBI, home runs, doubles, and games played.

A native of Miller Place, NY, Stransky currently resides in Utica and is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration at UC.
