Tim Gates

Coach Gates recently retired in June of 2023 from Westmoreland High School where he had a long and successful teaching and coaching career.  During Coach Gates’ time at Westmoreland, he taught High School Physical Education and Health.  He also was the Head Coach for the Varsity Football, Boys Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Golf teams for nearly 30 seasons, winning several League, Section and NY State Regional Titles.

In the Fall of 2006, Coach Gates led his Bulldogs to the school’s first Section 3 Football Title in 18 years and earned the Utica Observer Dispatch Coach of the Year honor.  Westmoreland continued their success under Gates by winning Section 3 Football titles in 2008, 2009 and 2011.  His Volleyball teams won Section 3 Titles in 2003 and 2009 along with a NY State Regional Title in 2003.  The Varsity Golf Team won league titles in 2007 and 2009 and several of Gates’ golfers competed Sectional and State Qualifier Tournaments.

Since his retirement, Gates has been very active as a member of the Utica Board of Volleyball Officials along with working at a local golf club during the summer months.  He is very much looking forward to working with the student athletes of Utica University.
