Jim Murnane was named associate director of athletics in January of 2012 by athletic director, Dave Fontaine. Murnane began his tenure at Utica College in the fall of 1998 as the assistant men’s baseball coach under, then head coach, Don Guido. After a period working in the Herkimer County Community College Athletic Department, Murnane returned to Utica College in November of 2000 as the intramural director and head softball coach. From 2001-2004 his  softball teams compiled a record of 62-59 and had three trips to the postseason. In the summer of 2005, Murnane was appointed to the position of assistant athletic director where he would remain until January of 2012.

In his role as the associate director of athletics, Murnane’s main duties are to oversee the NCAA compliance department, schedule and staff the athletic facilities, manage the fitness center, oversee contest management and direct the College’s vast intramural program.

Murnane graduated from Utica College in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and then obtained a second bachelor’s degree in physical education from SUNY Brockport in 1998. In the fall of 2002 he completed his coursework for a master’s degree in education from SUNY Cortland.

While attending Utica College, Murnane was a four year member of the varsity baseball team and a team captain beginning in his sophomore season through his senior season. He was named team MVP in his junior and senior season and was the winner of the Dick Miller and Kiwanis Student Athlete awards in his senior year. Murnane was also was an ECAC All-Star selection in 1994 & 1995 and was an NCBL All-Star selection, as a member of the Utica–Rome Indians, in 1994.

Murnane was born and raised in Utica and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1991. He currently resides in Whitesboro, NY with his wife and four children.
