UTICA, NY (11/21/11)- Junior Matt Baldwin (Gloversville/ Gloversville, NY) of the Utica College men’s basketball team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 28.
Baldwin earned tournament MVP honors at the Hilbert Tip-Off Tournament after 28 and 22-point performances. On Friday, UC trailed Clarkson by eight points with under a minute to go but Baldwin netted the final 11 points of the game to steal the win. On Saturday, he scored 22 points, 13 of them in the second half, to lead UC to the tournament championship over Hilbert.
Through three games so far, Baldwin has averaged 20.7 points and 4.3 assists, while shooting 51.4 % from the floor and has sunk 10-of-21 from beyond the arc.
The Pioneers are 2-1 on the season and return to action next Monday as they travel to Oneonta for a non-conference game against the Red Dragons. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
