UTICA, NY (11/21/11)- Senior Katie McGee of the Utica College women’s basketball team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week, Monday.
McGee, a native of Philadelphia, PA, played every minute of every game last week. She averaged 16.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 3.0 steals per game as the Pioneers went 2-1. In UC’s season opener, she recorded a double-double (22 points, 10 assists) and flirted with a triple-double by ripping down six rebounds. She added another double-double (12 points, ten rebounds) in the Pioneers first loss of the season against Skidmore on Sunday. She shot 54.5% from beyond the arc (6-of-11) over the course of three games. She was also named to the All-Tournament team at the Skidmore Invitational.
Through three games so far, McGee leads the team in points (48), assists (20), steals (9), and rebounds (22). In her career, McGee has sunk 173 field goals, 202 free throws, 70 shots from behind the arc, and has totaled 639 career points.
UC is 2-1 through the first week of the season. The Pioneers return to action Monday, as they travel to Oneonta for a non-conference game against the Red Dragons. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
