UTICA, NY (12/12/11)- Sophomore Ridge Garbutt of the Utica College men’s hockey team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week, Monday.
Garbutt, a native of Toronto, Ontario, had four points in two games over the weekend. On Friday, he assisted on the lone Pioneer goal as UC defeated Potsdam State 1-0. On Saturday, Garbutt exploded, scoring the first two goals of the game, and added an assist as UC cruised past Salve Regina, 12-0. Garbutt now has four points in three games so far this season.
The Pioneers head into the semester break with an 8-3 overall record and a 1-3 mark in conference play. On Saturday, UC saw its first sell-out in program history as 4,000 people packed the Utica Memorial Auditorium for the 7th annual New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss. Over 4,500 stuffed animals rained down onto the ice when Garbutt netted the first Pioneer goal.
UC returns from break on Dec. 30 when it takes on Castleton at the Plattsburgh State Tournament. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
