Utica University Athletics

UTICA, NY (1/9/12) - Sophomore goalie Jennifer Hamel of the Utica College women’s hockey team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week after stopping 30 shots as the Pioneers returned to the ice Saturday afternoon to take on Manhattanville College. 

Hamel held the Valiants scoreless until midway through the third period.  UC was able to score a late goal, but not before M’Ville snuck in an empty-netter to secure the victory.  The Pioneers were outshot 32-20 on the day, but they were able to keep the contest close the entire way, in part due to the performance of Hamel. 

She currently ranks 13th nationally with a .935 save percentage and she is tied for sixth in the country with two shut outs in nine games played. She holds a 2.12 goals against average and a 5-4 overall record for UC. 

The Pioneers return to the ice on Tuesday night when they travel to Middlebury College.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
