Utica, N.Y. (3/20/2012) -- Senior pitcher Heather Kingsbury of the Utica College Softball team has been named Utica College’s Female Athlete of The Week. Kingsbury led the Pioneers to four of their seven wins over spring break at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fl.
The senior from Williamson, NY went 4-1 on the week as the Pioneers compiled a record of 7-4 while in Florida. In five games she only allowed nine earned runs over a span of 27 and 1/3rd innings pitched, good enough for an earned run average of 2.30.
The week started off a little shaky for the senior hurler, as she gave up six runs and collected her first and only loss of the trip in the Pioneers’ season opener against Springfield College on Sunday, March 11th.
She bounced back immediately with four straight wins as she spearheaded a five game win streak for UC.
She gave up four hits and one run in five innings, leading the Pioneers to their first win of the trip against Wheaton (MA), on Monday March 12th. The following day she had her best outing of the trip. She pitched a complete-game, giving up only four hits, one earned run and she also struck out four batters in a very hard fought win against Framingham State.
Kingsbury went on to collect two more wins for Utica, against Rutgers-Camden and Roger Williams College, respectively.
UC closed out their spring break trip with five straight wins, outscoring those opponents 36-5. The Pioneers return to action Wednesday, March 21st for a double header against cross-town rival SUNYIT. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
