Utica, NY (4/2/12)- Sophomore Evelyn Kurzac of the Utica College water polo team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week, Monday.
Kurzac, a native of Mudelein, IL, led the Pioneers with 25 goals and 15 assists in five games over the weekend.
On day one of the two-day Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Invitational, the Pioneers went 1-1 as they beat Penn State Behrend by a score of 12-7 and lost to Wheaton College 16-5. Kurzac tallied seven goals, eight assists and three steals on the day. On day two, the Pioneers dropped three straight to Macalester College, Connecticut College, and Carthage College. Kurzac followed up on her excellent performance on Friday, with 18 goals and seven assists on Saturday. UC is now 2-8 on the season with a record of 1-4 in conference play.
The sophomore sensation leads the Pioneers with 43 goals in 10 games.
UC will be back in the pool on Friday, April 13 against Grove City College as they play host to part two of the CWPA’s.
