Utica, NY (4-2-12) – Sophomore Alec Choleva of the Utica College baseball team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April, 1 2012.

Choleva threw a 9.0 inning, one-hitter Sunday against Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher only to have the game called due to rain, resulting in a 3-3 tie. The second year hurler allowed no earned runs while fanning eight Cardinals and walking four batters.  The game is set to resume on Sunday, April 29th.
He also added one hit and one RBI Sunday and totaled two hits, two RBI, one run scored and one stolen base throughout the weekend set.

The Pioneer ace currently leads the rotation with a 3.60 ERA and team-highs’ in innings (26.0) and strikeouts (21).  At the plate, he is first in runs scored (eight) and at bats (56) while second on the team in average (.286), hits (16), and RBI (eight).

UC returns to the diamond Tuesday when it hosts SUNY Canton at the Utica College Baseball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
