Utica, NY (10-0-12) – Senior quarterback Andrew Benkwitt, of the Utica College football team, was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 22, 2012.
Benkwitt became the first 10,000-yard passer in school-history as led the Pioneers to one of the biggest wins in the programs history Saturday as they smacked Alfred University 31-7. He threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns on 26-of-37 and has racked up over 300 yards and at least one touchdown in each of his last four games.
On the season, Benkwitt is 199-of-303 with 31 total touchdowns (three rushing) and five interceptions while throwing for 2, 646 yards.
The senior slinger is currently third in the country in points responsible for (24.25 pg), seventh in passing yards (2,646), eighth in passing yards per game (330.7), ninth in total offense, 13th in passing (24.88 passes completed pg) and 18th in passing efficiency (166.23).
Now in the national spotlight, UC is currently receiving votes in the latest national poll and will head to Salisbury University this weekend for a first place showdown against the Sea Gulls. The winner of Saturday's contest will hold sole possession of first place in the Empire 8.
