Utica, NY (2/11/13) - Senior guard Matt Baldwin of the Utica College men’s basketball team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for his efforts on the hardwood this past week.
Baldwin scored 19 points and had six assists in the Pioneers 90-77 win over Hartwick on Tuesday, February 5th. He added a season-high 26 points against Houghton College on Friday as the Pioneers snagged the victory, 86-81. Over the course of the two games Baldwin shot 80% from the free throw line (12-15), 57% from the floor (12-21) and 60% from 3-point range (9-15).
Baldwin is currently ranked ninth in the Empire 8 Conference for assists per game with 3.1. On the season he is averaging 12.7 points a game, shooting 90% from the charity stripe (50-56) and is currently second on the team in 3-point field goal percentage at 35%.
The Pioneers are currently 10-13 overall, including a 6-6 mark in Empire 8. They finish out their regular season schedule this weekend when they first travel to Ithaca Friday, February 15th at 8 p.m. They return to the hardwood on Saturday at 4 p.m. as they take on Elmira College.
