Utica, NY (3/11/13) - Senior captain Evan Chlanda of the Utica men’s hockey team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week Monday for his performance in UC’s NCAA quarterfinal victory against Bowdoin College on Saturday.
Chlanda played a huge part in the Pioneer’s come from behind victory Saturday night when UC found themselves down two goals early on. The senior captain recorded three assists as he guided the squad to a 4-2 victory over the Polar Bears. One of his dishes came on the first goal to cut the lead to one score, 2-1, while the other two came in the last period during crunch time when UC had no room for error. Chlanda was a key component in the Pioneer comeback, setting up his fellow team mates Jordan Hobaica, Trever Hertz and Ridge Garbutt on each of their goals.
The Pioneers return to the ice Friday, Mar. 15 as UC will take on the University of Wisconsin-EAU Claire in the Frozen Four of the NCAA tournament at Herb Brooks Area in Lake Placid, NY. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. If Utica wins, they will play the winner of the 4 p.m. game featuring Norwich and Oswego St. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m., Saturday.
