Utica, NY (3/18/13) - Sophomore forward Louie Educate of the Utica College men’s hockey team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week Monday after being named to the CCM All-American First Team.

Educate wrapped up an impressive 2013 campaign leading the Pioneers in all major offensive categories including goals (17), assists (18), points (35) and shots on goal (104). The first year Pioneer, who prior to UC played his freshmen season at Nichols College, was a perfect fit for Utica registering nine multi-point games this season and now joining an elite group of only three Pioneers in the program’s history to earn All-American status.  His 1.29 points per game ranked 23rd in the nation.

Educate helped lead UC’s men’s hockey team to a 21-6-1 overall record and its first NCAA tournament appearance in school history.  The Pioneers’ impressive season led by their sophomore forward ended in a loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the semifinals of the NCAA Divison III men’s hockey tournament. Wis. - Eau Claire would eventually go on to win the National Championship.
