Junior Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) of the Utica College field hockey team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Steele-Norton now stands alone atop the all-time goal scoring list at Utica College, and also became just the second Pioneer to break the 100-point mark for a career, as UC finished the week with a 2-0 record.
On Wednesday, she netted two goals in the second half as the Pioneers rallied to beat SUNY Geneseo by a 3-2 score. Her second goal in the 63rd minute tied Shannon Rohacek’s record for the most in school history (46).
On Saturday, the Pioneers opened Empire 8 play with a convincing 4-0 victory at St. John Fisher, and it was Steele-Norton leading the way once again. She picked up the record breaking goal just 6:39 into the contest, and added another in the final two minutes of play as UC cruised to victory. She now has 48 career goals and is currently second on the team with six goals and 13 points on the season.Â
The Pioneers will play their next contest on Wednesday as they travel to Saratoga Springs, NY for a non-conference match up against Skidmore College. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
