Chris Jeffers of the Utica College men’s basketball team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week on Monday after being named to the All-Tournament Team at the Hamilton College Invitational.
Jeffers averaged a double-double, 18.5 points and 17.0 rebounds per game, as the Pioneers took home third place at the Hamilton College Invitational over the weekend. He also combined to shoot 50% from the floor for the weekend (11-of-22) and he made 14 free throws. He has a double-double in four straight games this year and he is averaging 15.5 points and 14 rebounds per game.
In a week where the Pioneers finished with a 1-1 record, Jeffers remained at the top of his game for UC. Jeffers was instrumental as Utica blew open a one point halftime lead in an 85-78 win over D’Youville in the consolation game at the Hamilton Tournament. The senior forward finished the afternoon with 19 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Jeffers also recorded his fourth consecutive double-double in the contest, with a game-high 22 rebounds (17 defensive).
While the Pioneers couldn’t hold a seven point second half lead in a 92-82 opening round loss to Widener, Jeffers remained dominant. He racked up 18 points and brought down 12 rebounds in the loss.
Utica will stay on the road all week, as it visits SUNY Cortland on Tuesday at 6 p.m., before travleing for a Sunday afternoon matinee at SUNYIT at 1 p.m. The Pioneers home opener will take place on December 4th at 6 p.m. as they welcome SUNY Canton to Clark Gymnasium.
