Utica, NY (12-16-13) – Sophomore guard Mary Miceli, of the Utica College women’s basketball team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week Monday after her impressive performance on the court this past week.
Miceli netted a team-best 17 points and grabbed five rebounds in the Pioneers 58-57 loss to Union College on Tuesday. She netted 10 of her 17 points in the final 5:11 of the contest to help lead the Pioneer comeback. She was 3-for-4 from behind the arc. She currently ranks third in the conference with an average of 16.7 points per game.
On the season, the sophomore standout leads the squad in almost all major categories including points (15.6 ppg), assists (2.5 a/g), 3-pointers (16) and free throws made (27) as well as minutes (38.3 m/g). She opened up her second-year campaign with a career-high 42 points in the season-opener versus Potsdam.
UC returns to the hardwood following the winter break, on Friday, Jan. 3rd 2014 when it opens up Empire 8 Conference play in Hoboken, NJ against Stevens Institute of Technology. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
