Utica, NY (12-16-13) – Freshman goalie Marcus Zelzer, of the nationally-ranked No. 8/11 Utica College men’s hockey team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week Monday after his outstanding effort in between the pipes on Saturday against the USA National Under 18 Team.
Zelzer led the Pioneers to an impressive victory over the USA National U-18 Team on Saturday allowing just one goal in a 4-1 victory. The UC goaltender stopped 29 shots in the crease and was lights out after the first period. On the season, the first-year standout is 3-0 with 80 saves on 85 shots. He currently has a save percentage of .941 and a goals against average of 1.63.
The Pioneers return to the ice following the winter break, on Friday, Jan. 3rd 2014 when they travel to Oswego, NY for the Oswego Classic. UC will face the University of Wisconsin-Stout in the first round. The puck is set to drop at 4 p.m.
