Utica, NY (2-3-14) – Freshman jumper Rayshawn Scott, of the Utica College men's track and field team, was named the College's Male Athlete of the Week for his performance on Saturday at the Empire 8 Championships.
Scott, named Co-Field Athlete of the Meet, won the triple jump shattering a school-record with an ECAC qualifying leap of 14.14 meters and missed the meet record by .02. The freshman standout currently ranks ninth in the country on the NCAA DIII Indoor Qualifying List.
He also placed third in the high jump soaring 1.88 meters to lead the UC to a fourth place finish at the 2014 Empire 8 Conference Championships Saturday at Ithaca.
Ithaca (146 points) won its ninth straight title while St. John Fisher (105) placed second ahead Stevens (97) who finished third. Utica finished fourth (67).
The Pioneers have three scheduled meets remaining before post-season competition begins. UC returns to action Saturday, Feb. 8 as the squad heads to the College at Brockport for a 10 a.m. competition.
