Utica, NY (February 10, 2014) – Freshman forward Gabrielle Schnepp of the Utica College women’s hockey team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The first year player from Northville, Michigan helped lead the charge in a close loss to nationally-ranked No. 2 Middlebury, and two wins over Neumann, this past last week. On Tuesday against Middlebury, Schnepp had one goal and an assist. Her goal with 3:25 left in the third brought it to a one goal game, but the Pioneers could not tie it up. In UC’s 3-1 win over Neumann on Saturday, she went 12-for-21 on face-offs and recorded a shot on goal. The following day against Neumann, Schnepp went off with two goals and an assist in a 5-1 victory. Both goals were on the power-play.
In all, Schnepp totaled five points on the week with three goals and two assists over the course of three games. She has 12 goals and 11 assists on the season, and has four multi-goal games this year. She currently ranks second on the team in points behind senior All-American Megan Meyers (30 points). She is tied for eighth in the ECAC Women’s West Conference with an average of 1.10 points per game.
She is second in the conference among freshman in points and leads all freshmen in assists. She ranks fifth nationally in rookie scoring. She is also tied for 34th in the country in points per game and is 26th in goals per game.
UC returns to action Saturday, Feb. 15th to host Oswego State at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The puck is scheduled to drop at 2:30 p.m. They will travel to Oswego the following day for a 4 p.m. start.
