Utica, NY (2-17-13) – Sophomore guard Mary Miceli, of the Utica College women’s basketball team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week Monday.
Miceli netted a team-high 25 in the team’s first conference win of the season over the weekend. Against Alfred she shot 7-of-13 from the field and was 4-for-7 from behind the three point line. She also shot a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line. The following night in a loss to Ithaca, she netted 16 points while grabbing five rebounds. For the weekend, she averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals.
On the season, the sophomore standout leads the squad in almost all major categories including points (14.1 ppg), assists (2.2 apg), and 3-pointers (44) as well as minutes (36.1 mpg). She opened up her second-year campaign with a career-high 42 points in the season-opener versus Potsdam.
UC returns to the hardwood to finish the season with a pair of home games this weekend. On Friday, the Pioneers will host Nazareth College at 8 p.m. following the men’s game. On Saturday, Utica will host “A Game for Brooks Miles” to help raise funds for Kendall McNamara, who was diagnosed with leukemia in August of 2013. The Pioneers will host Houghton College on Saturday with tip-off set for 5 p.m.
