Utica, NY (4/21/14) – Junior hurdler Shane Ruffing of the Utica College men’s track & field team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week Monday for his performance at the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships this past weekend.
 
Ruffing collected 20 points for the Pioneers after he won both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles with times of 15.16 and 56.10. Ruffing also helped UC place third in the 4x100 meter relay with teammates Trevor Gibson, Christian St. Amour and Andrew Hoover.
 
Ruffing was awarded the Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Meet for his efforts. Utica has now won the award the last two seasons, as Hoover took home the honor last spring. Ruffing’s performance also paved the way for the UC men to finish second at the E8 Outdoor Championships for the second consecutive season.
 
UC returns to the track Saturday at Brockport for the Golden Eagle Run at 10 a.m. The meet will be held at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium. The Pioneers then head to St. John Fisher College for the New York State Track Conference Championships the weekend of May 5 at the Polisseni Track.
