Utica, NY (September 8, 2014) – Junior standout Ashton Villenueve of the Utica College women’s cross country team earned her second victory of the season at the Steven A. Warde Invitational hosted by SUNY Cobleskill. Her clocked time of 19:12. was good enough to lead all runners and she was also named the College’s Female Athlete of the Wee for her efforts. Villeneuve’s time of 19:12.2 is the fourth fastest 5K time in program-history. She has now won the first two meets of the season for the second consecutive season.
Villenueve paved the way for UC at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, where three Pioneers finished in the top 10 and a total of 11 finished in the top 25. Villenueve’s performance helped the Pioneers win the Steven A. Warde Invitational for the third consecutive season.
Villenueve, an NCAA qualifier last season, also earned ECAC DIII Cross Country Upstate Runner of the Week and Empire 8 Conference Runner of the Week for her performance at the 2014 SUNYIT Short Course Invitational, UC’s season opening meet, last season.
The cross country team has a break this week before traveling to Rochester on Saturday, Sept. 20 to compete in the University of Rochester Yellow Jacket Invitational at Genesee Valley Park.
