Utica, NY (September 15, 2014) – Sophomore Brandi Blaszak of the Utica College volleyball team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for her performance over the course of three games last week. Blaszak’s play paced the Pioneers to a 2-1 record.
On Wednesday, Blaszak helped UC win its first matchup against cross-town rival SUNYIT for the first time in two years. The Pioneers won all three sets Wednesday night at home. Blaszak contributed to UC’s come-from-behind effort in each set with a game-high 14 kills to go along with five digs.
Over the weekend, the Pioneers split a pair of games at the SUNY Canton Invitational. The Pioneers dropped the first match, against the host Kangaroos, 3-0. Blaszak recorded nine kills in the loss. The Pioneers bounced back to defeat Johnson State in the second match 3-0. Blaszak had 10 kills in the contest.
Blaszak leads the Pioneers this season with 100.5 points and 81 kills. She also ranks second on the team with 177 total attacks. Blaszak, a 2013 graduate of Whitesboro High School, is currently pursuing a degree in Mathematics and Education.
The Pioneers (4-5 overall), fresh off the 3-0 win over Johnson State College, will host SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday at the Harold T. Clark Athletic Center. UC looks to remain undefeated at home. The opening serve will be at 7 p.m
