Utica, NY (September 15, 2014) – Sophomore Irvens Eristil of the Utica College football team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for his clutch performance against the Union College Dutchmen in Schenectady, NY on Saturday afternoon. Eristil was also named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week for a performance that helped the Pioneers (2-0) remain undefeated.
 
The cornerback recorded the game-winning touchdown for Utica after recovering a fumble and running 17 yards to pay dirt. Eristil also had an interception that killed Union’s comeback attempt and three tackles to help pace the defense.
 
After trailing 16-0 at halftime, the Pioneers defense shutout the Dutchmen in the final two quarters. Meanwhile, the offense scored 23 unanswered points. Eristil accounted for two of the three turnovers the defense forced in the second half of UC’s comeback victory.
 
The Pioneers will open up Empire 8 Conference play Saturday when Frostburg State University pays a visit to Charles A. Gaetano Stadium for UC’s home-opener. The game kicks off at noon.
