Utica University Athletics

Utica, NY (11/3/14) – Freshman midfielder Bita Gazashvili of the Utica College men’s soccer team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for his performance against Alfred.
 
With the season on the line, Gazashvili stepped up and scored two goals in the first thirteen minutes of action. His goals proved to be enough as the Pioneers downed Alfred 4-1. The win puts Utica as the number three seed in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament this weekend.
 
Gazashvili now has four goals on the season and moves his point total to 14. The freshman started the season strong with a goal and two assists in the first two games. He added another two assists against Houghton College (9/20/14) and picked up one against Elmira (9/27/14). Against Skidmore (10/7/14) he also tacked on a goal and assist. Gazashvili continues to lead the Empire 8 in assists and sits fifth in points.
 
The Pioneers (7-8-3, 4-3 Empire 8) will travel to top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology next weekend for the E8 Tournament.  UC will take on No. 2 seed Ithaca College in the semifinal at 4 p.m.
