Utica, NY (11/3/14) – Senior forward Chasity Eckert of the Utica College field hockey team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week, Monday, for her performance against St. John Fisher over the weekend.
In a winner-take-all game at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium, Eckert provided the game-tying assist late in the first half. She followed that up with an insurance goal in the second half to secure the 3-1 victory for the Pioneers. With the win, UC took home the Empire 8 regular season title and the hosting rights for the Conference Tournament this weekend.
Eckert is in the midst of her best season yet, as she has tallied career-highs in goals (ten), assists (eight), and points (28). She is third on the team in both goals and points and ranks fifth in the E8 in assists).
The Pioneers (16-2) will take on the No. 4 seed, Stevens Institute of Technology in the Empire 8 semifinals on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Gaetano Stadium.
