UTICA, NY – Sophomore Meghan Fiore of the women’s basketball team was named the Utica College Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 23. Fiore averaged a team-high 22 points, and added 7.5 rebounds to pace the Pioneers to a 2-0 week. She also added 3.5 blocks per contest.
Fiore scored a team-high 24 points and snagged 11 rebounds as the Pioneers defeated Empire 8 Conference rival Nazareth College 64-58 in overtime Friday night. Fiore netted five points in the last 44 seconds of regulation to help send the contest to overtime. UC went on to outscore the visitors 10-4 in the overtime period to earn the key conference victory.
She also ored 20 points and added four rebounds in the Pioneers’ 71-60 win over Hartwick on Tuesday.
Through 16 games this season Fiore ranks second on the team with 16.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest. She also ranks second on the team with 12 blocks and she has 17 steals.
Utica (9-7, 5-2 Empire 8) has now won five of its last six games and the Pioneers will travel to Stevens Institute of Technology for a conference contest on Friday at 6 p.m. The Pioneers hope to avenge an early season, 44-37, loss to the Ducks as they travel to Hoboken, N.J.
