Utica, NY (5/4/2015)- Junior shortstop Alysa Russell of the Utica College softball team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week, Monday.
In four games last week, Russell came up to bat 15 times and had nine hits, good for a .600 batting average. She also scored eight runs while driving in another eight, hit one double, two triples, and four home runs. Both of her hits in game two against Cazenovia were home runs. She also drew two walks and stole one base.
On the year, Russell has played and started in 32 of the Pioneers’ 34 games. She has a team-best batting average of .472, and a team-leading seven home runs, with 41 runs scored, 50 hits, 24 RBIs and 15 walks drawn. Russell has struck out just three times in her 106 at bats.  Â
The Pioneers finished the season 18-16. Utica has had a winning record in each of the last five seasons.
