UTICA, NY- Senior thrower Sam Bonk of the Utica College men’s track and field team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Gerry Gravel Classic on Saturday.
 
Bonk broke the school-record in the hammer throw event, with his career-best distance of 50.95 meters to came in third place at the meet. The previous record was held by teammate Jon Hoover, who recorded a throw of 47.65 meters last year. Bonk’s previous best in the hammer throw was 47.11 meters at the Coach P Invitational earlier in the season.
 
At the Classic, Bonk also competed in the shot put and the discus where he finished third in the shot put with a distance of 14.00 meters and tenth in the discus with a mark of 35.47 meters.
 
The team is back in action on Tuesday for the Hamilton College Midweek Meet which is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
