Utica, NY (4/4/11). Junior goalie Shelby Barbay (Waterloo, NY) of the Utica College women's lacrosse team was named the College's Female Athlete of the Week for the week and the Empire 8 Conference Goalie of the Week for the week ending April 3.

Barbay stopped 36 shots as the Pioneers posted a 2-1 record last week. She saved 10 of 16 shots to help the Pioneers’ secure a 7-6 victory over host Oswego State last Wednesday.

Last Friday she recorded a career-high 21 saves against nationally-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, in the Pioneers' 11-6 loss. The Pioneers were outshot 38-12 on the day.
However, Barbay returned to the turf on Saturday and made five saves to help the Pioneers to their first conference victory of the season against Hartwick College.

Barbay is the college's all-time leader in saves with 398 in just over two full seasons. This season she has made 68 saves and maintains a .607 save percentage.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday when they host Empire 8 rival Ithaca College. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
