Utica, NY (4/4/11) UTICA, NY – Freshman hurdler Jessica Ciraulo (Schenectady, NY / Mohonasen) of the Utica College women's track and field team was named the College's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 9.
Ciraulo recorded a time of 14.79 in the 100-meter hurdles to earn a third place finish at the Cornell Spring Invitational held on Saturday. She has also provisionally qualified for the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio.
Her time of 14.79 is the fifth fastest freshman time in the country and she currently ranks 11th nationally in Division III women’s track.
For the outdoor season she has recorded one victory, one third-place and a fourth-place finish.
In the indoor season, she qualified for ECAC post-season competition and was also named Rookie of the Meet at the NYSCTC Indoor Track & Field Championships. She also earned Empire 8 Women’s Indoor Track & Field All-Conference Second Team honors in the 55-meter dash, 55-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash.
Ciraulo was ranked in the top 20 nationally and also recorded NCAA provisional cut times during the indoor season in the 55-meter hurdles.
The Pioneers will return to the track on April 17 when they travel to Rochester Institute of Technology for the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
