Utica, NY – Antonio Scala of the Utica College football team has been named the Co-UC Male Athlete of the Week, along with fellow Pioneer Josh Haskin of the hockey team.
Scala spearheaded the Pioneer defense against Buffalo State over the weekend, keeping the Bengals to under 300 yards of total offense and just 3 points. He finished the game with 15 tackles, 1 sack, and an interception to help secure Utica the 36-3 victory.
Antonio recorded his second pick of the year and a season-high in tackles. He currently leads the UC defense with 78 tackles on the season, and also ranks fifth in the Empire 8.
The Pioneers are currently 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the E8 this season with one more contest left on the schedule. The team will put its bowl eligibility on the line in a road matchup with conference rival Hartwick on Saturday at 1 p.m.
