Utica, NY (April 18, 2011)- Freshman outfielder Kristie Jones (Brewerton, NY) of the Utica College softball team was named the Colleges’ Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 17.
Jones led the Pioneers to two victories on the week, while hitting an astounding .615 with three runs scored, and an amazing ten RBI’s.
Last Tuesday she had a historic game, breaking the Colleges’ school record with eight RBIs in one game against cross town rival SUNYIT. Jones went 3-for-3 with eight RBIs, two runs scored, and hit two massive homeruns in the first game against the Wildcats. She finished the two game series going 6-for-7 with 10 RBI’s and three runs scored.
Jones returned to the field Sunday against Empire 8 opponent St. John Fisher and continued where she left off. She went 2-for-6 in two games against the Cardinals.
Jones leads the Pioneers with five home runs and 27 RBI’s; and is third on the team with a .338 batting average.
Jones is currently enjoying a six-game hitting streak.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday as they take on SUNY Oswego. Game is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
