Utica, NY - Junior forward Kierra Caissey of the Utica College women’s soccer team has been selected as the UC Female Athlete of the Week.
Caissey started off the week on a high note against Buffalo State, breaking the scoreless tie in overtime on a header that found the back of the net from an Emma Workman free kick. This clutch goal in the 95th minute of play secured the third win of the year for the Pioneers.
The 2018 First-Team All-Conference Selection picked up right where she left off on Friday night at home against SUNY Canton, adding another two goals to her stat line. Senior Mikayla Blumenstock assisted the first goal on a beautiful centering pass, which Caissey was able to kick in from six yards out to give the Pioneers and early 1-0 lead.
Caissey’s second goal was a laser from 25 yards out that just peaked in the top left corner of the goal, giving her team a convincing 3-0 lead heading into the half. UC would go on to win this one 4-0 and advance to 4-0 this season.
Caissey totaled 18 points (eight goals, two assists) during her 2018 campaign, and is already more than half way to breaking her personal point record four games into the season with 10 points (five goals).
This is the second award of the year for Caissey, who was also named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week last Tuesday.
The undefeated Pioneers are scheduled for a two-game road trip this weekend against SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson before returning home on Wednesday, September 18 to host Hamilton College at 4 p.m.
