Utica, NY - Junior Josh Kienz of the Utica College men’s golf team has been named UC Male Athlete of the Week for his stellar performance last weekend at the St. Lawrence invitational, which led his team for a fifth place overall finish.
After opening with a 77 on Saturday that included four birdies, he raised his game to an even higher level on Sunday. In the second round, Kienz birdied five holes, including three on a bogey-free front nine on his way to an impressive round of 69.
His score resulted in a three under par round as an incredibly strong score of 33 on the front nine buoyed him into the red numbers. His two day total of 146 placed him at just two over par for the tournament. The former Empire 8 Rookie of the Year had the best second round in the tournament, and the second best eighteen hole score overall in the field during the weekend with his Sunday performance.
As a team, the Pioneers came in a solid fifth place.
The Pioneers return to action this week as they go to the Keuka Invitational on Wednesday, September 11th.
