Utica, NY - Junior Sydney Scaccia of the Utica College field hockey team has been named the UC Female Athlete of the Week for her contributions in the team's last two games against SUNY Geneseo and Elmira.

Scaccia sparked a comeback down 2-0 against SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, posting her team-high seventh goal of the season. The Pioneers would climb all the way back to tie the game up at two and then take a 3-2 lead, but Geneseo posted the last two goals to secure a 4-3 victory.

The Whitesboro native added the lone goal on Saturday against the Elmira Eagles in the 32nd minute, a goal which would eventually force overtime. The Pioneers went on to win this one by a score of 2-1 in a shootout to advance to 6-8 this season.

Scaccia currently leads the team in goals with eight and is tied for the team-high in points with junior Sabrina Whitehouse, who have both notched 19 points thus far in 2019.

UC will continue its four-game road trip this Wednesday against Hamilton College at 5:30 p.m.
