Utica, NY - Senior Mikayla Blumenstock of the Utica College Field Hockey team has been named the UC Female Athlete of the Week for her big performances against MCLA and Elmira.
Blumenstock's performance in Wednesday night’s 5-0 win over MCLA solidified her in multiple categories of Utica College history. She broke the program's single-season goal record jumping to 19 on the year, passing Michele Tansey who previously held the record since 1993 with 17. It didn't end there. Blumenstock's fourth goal marked her 39th point this season, passing Tansey's 37-point season in 1993. The senior also jumped to second all-time in points, totaling 66 over the last two years. She posted a single-game high in goals as well, with her previous high of three coming on October 9 against SUNY Poly.
The Mohawk Valley Community College transfer kept things rolling on Saturday against Elmira, tabbing a three-goal afternoon en route to a big 4-1 win over the Eagles. Blumenstock had a part in every single goal that was scored, as she was also credited with an assist in the only goal of the game that she didn't score.
This now leaves Blumenstock just three goals away from tying the program’s career-goal record and four points away from tying the career-points record. The most impressive part is that she has reached this point in only two seasons at Utica College.
The fourth-seeded Utica College women’s soccer team will head back on the road against the top-seeded St. John Fisher on Wednesday at 7p.m. for the opening round of the Empire 8 tournament.
