Utica, NY - Freshman guard Brett Talbert of the Utica College men's basketball team has been named UC Male Athlete of the Week for his stellar three-game stretch over the last week.

Talbert started the week being named Most Valuable Player of the Utica College Classic. The Pioneers swept the tournament, topping Anna Maria 102-72 Sunday afternoon and SUNY Delhi 92-65 the following day. The Deer Park, New York native finished with a season-high 21 points in both games, marking the first 20-plus point games of his collegiate career. He also got things done on the defensive end, combining for a tournament-high seven steals.

He kept things rolling against 22nd-ranked Hamilton on Friday, posting a 17-point, five-rebound stat line while also adding two assists and steals en route to a 104-97 win over the Continentals. Talbert is now the second-leading scorer on the team, averaging 12.5 points per game in his first collegiate season. He also leads the team in steals (16) and assists (25) thus far.

The UC men's basketball team returns to action Tuesday night, as it opens up Empire 8 conference play hosting Sage at 5:30 p.m.
