Utica, NY - Senior Chase Pecoraro of the Utica College men's track & field team has been named UC Male Athlete of the Week for his performances in the first two meets of the season.
Pecoraro was the winner in the pole vault with a new personal best of 4.35 on Saturday. He bested the runner up from RPI by six inches, or .15 meters. He also went on to win the high jump with a personal best 1.93 meter clearance, which is an AARTFC qualifying mark.
The Medina, New York native placed second in the high jump at 1.84 meters as he tied the winning clearance on Tuesday, but lost the lead on the tiebreak. He also added an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a personal best of 6.27 meters the same day.
The team placed third at the season-opening invitationals, both of which were held at the Todd & Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center Dome. The Pioneers will return to action this Friday and Saturday, as it travels to Cornell University to take part in the Upstate Challenge.
