Trevor Cortright has been selected as a Pioneer Athlete of the Week for the week of January 20th, 2025.
Cortright was given the nod after he battled his way to the men's wrestling program's first ever SUNYAC Championship, running the gauntlet and eventually emerging as the victor of the 133lb weight division. Cortright went 4-0 during his tournament run in Cortland this past Saturday, blazing through the competition and only allowing four points to be scored on him during four outings in the circle. Cortright wrecked opponents to the tune of a 49-4 points gained to points conceded margin, completely shutting out three of his four foes and only allowing points in his semifinal matchup which he won 16-4. The gifted Pioneer grappler won his first two matchups by scores of 13-0 and 14-0. In the final, Cortright completed the run against Fisher fighter Derek Bernardino in the 133lb finals, beating the Cardinal competitor by a 7-0 decision to grab the gold and become Utica's first ever men's wrestling SUNYAC Champion.
