Utica, N.Y. (9/19/2011) - Freshman Hannah Mackey of the Utica College field hockey team was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week, and the College’s Female Athlete of the Week, for the week ending September 18.
Mackey, a native of Locke, NY, tied a career-high with two goals in the Pioneers' 5-3 victory over conference rival and defending Empire 8 Champion, Stevens Institute of Technology, Saturday. She netted her third and fourth goals of the season just 12 minutes apart to help secure the win. The Pioneers have now defeated the Ducks in two consecutive meetings.
On the season, Mackey leads the team in scoring (eight points), and is second in shots (23) through five games. In the conference, she is tied for second with four goals.
Scoring has come in bunches for Mackey this year and in her first collegiate game she netted two goals in a span of 26 seconds.
UC (3-2, 1-0 Empire 8) returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Geneseo for a non conference contest. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
