Utica, N.Y. (9/26/2011) – Sophomore forward Sarah Southwell (Rome/Rome, N.Y.) netted one goal and added one assist in the Pioneers’ 4-3, come from behind, victory over Hartwick College Wednesday night. After a tremendous week of play she was honored by being named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week.
Southwell helped start the Pioneers off on the right foot by netting her third goal of the season just 10:40 into the contest against Hartwick. Less than 17 minutes later she tallied her only assist of the evening on Jill Benoit’s second goal of the year to give the Pioneers a 2-1 advantage midway through the first half of play.
Southwell is currently tied for third in the conference with nine total points this season, behind teammate Samantha Spohler, who has registered a conference-best 14 points through seven games. Southwell’s three goals and three assists also ranks second on the team.
The Pioneers (3-4, 1-0 Empire 8) return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to nationally-ranked No. 14/21 Ithaca College (5-0-2, 1-0 Empire 8) for a conference contest at 4 p.m.
