Utica, NY (10-17-11) – Freshman Louise Steele-Norton (Millbrook School/Avondale, PA), of the Utica College field hockey team, was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 17.
Steele-Norton racked up three goals this past week, in two games, as the Pioneers went 1-1, losing to national power Skidmore before beating Empire 8 rival Hartwick in a key conference contest. The freshman was named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week, consecutively, earlier this month for the weeks ending Sept. 26 and Oct. 3.
On Wednesday, she netted Utica’s lone goal as it lost to the Thoroughbreds 3-1 in Saratoga Springs, NY. On Saturday, she scored the first two Pioneer goals as the team went on to win 5-2 against the Hawks in Oneonta, NY. She put in a miss-kick from Hartwick goalie Megan Campbell, just .14 into the game, to record her tenth goal of the season and followed that up with her 11th, at 47:21, giving UC a 2-1 lead.
She currently leads the competitive Empire 8 Conference in goals (11) and game-winners (three) and she is tied for second in points (23).
The Pioneers are 9-5 overall this season, while sitting in first place in the conference with a 4-1 record. UC returns to action Wednesday as it travels to RPI to face the Engineers in a non-conference game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
